The City of Acworth’s Dream of Creating a Magical Art Fest Comes to Fruition

Acworth (December 1, 2011) – Historic Acworth is thrilled to launch the First Annual Acworth Art Fest on April 14 and 15, 2012 on its charming Main Street in the heart of the popular downtown district. More than 120 whimsical and colorful artisans will line the picturesque street with their creative artwork and imaginative displays. The Art Fest will open Saturday, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. “With the dynamic art and social scene in Acworth, this is the perfect venue for a vibrant and dynamic show,” states Amanda Sutter, Downtown Development Director of Acworth. The generous and supportive team at Sundial Plumbing of Marietta has signed on to be the Title Sponsor for the Event.

Splash Festivals Inc. who manages the award-winning Dunwoody Art Festival and Norcross Art Fest are partnering with the City on this “magical new event.” Splash Festivals was contacted by Acworth in late May of 2011 to produce a fun and festive annual art festival for the City in the spring of 2012. Co-owners, Frances Schube and Cindy Flynn, were thrilled to have the opportunity to create a yearly celebration of the arts for the enthusiastic and welcoming community. With wonderful volunteers and staff members from Acworth, the new Acworth Art Fest is sure to be a winner!

The most talented and entertaining artists from around the country have been invited to display their paintings, folk art, photography, pottery, yard art, jewelry, metal sculpture and so much more. That means, there’s something for everyone, and Acworth will certainly shine with this great group of artisans. Shoppers will be wowed by all of the whimsy, vibrant pieces and original works.

The weekend celebration will also include an enchanting Kidz Zone with art surprises, rides and creative games headed up by Lovona Brantley of the Acworth Gallery. Besides the boutiques and wonderful eateries in the downtown district, delectable treats will also be served at the Art Fest Food Court. Make sure to mark your calendars now for Acworth Art Fest. The beautiful facility was the perfect venue for the hospitality industry’s award celebration. Cindy Flynn and Frances Schube of Splash Festivals Inc., producers of the event, were thrilled to receive the trophy. “I can’t wait to give this beautiful glass sculpture to Bucky Johnson, because I think it would look great on the Mayor’s desk,” laughs Flynn. Lisa Anders, Deputy Director of the Gwinnett CVB, presented the award and commented that Norcross Art Fest does a wonderful job attracting visitors to the area and filling hotel rooms. Attendees of the ceremony also included Gwinnett hotel executives, general managers and restaurateurs.

Inside Gwinnett Magazine also has named Norcross Art Fest “Best Festival” by their readers for both 2010 and 2011. “Art Fest is truly a team effort. We have incredible volunteers, a wonderful committee and a super City staff that is there with us all the way,” explains Schube “We have more than 400 community helpers, students from Norcross High School, scouts from several troops, and even our Mayor and Councilmen are there to help make Art Fest a winner. Some of these tireless workers meet and greet the artisans at 4:30 am when it is still dark outside. They are the true heroes,” says Flynn.

Whimsical Dunwoody Art Festival Set for May 12 -13, 2012: Award-Winning Event Enters Third Year

DUNWOODY, GA – December 1, 2011 – Organizers have announced the dates for the third annual Dunwoody Art Festival, which is set once again for Mother’s Day weekend (May 12 and 13, 2012) and takes place in the heart of Dunwoody.

The whimsical and fun Dunwoody Art Festival will stretch two city blocks and will feature an Artist’s Market that will extend for more than a third of a mile, continuous live entertainment from local musical acts, an interactive children’s area with lively rides, face painting, sand art and great surprises from Dunwoody’s own, Purple Hippo. The popular Food Court returns with great eats for hungry shoppers who need a quick break before returning to find more unique art treasures. Dunwoody’s eclectic shopping district, which borders the festival grounds and is filled with restaurants, boutiques and unique stores, will be open to festivalgoers throughout the weekend.

Splash Festivals, producers of Dunwoody Art Festival, explain that invitation-only show is already filled. One hundred and seventy colorful and creative artisans have committed to exhibit at the Festival, some of them locking in their calendars before they left last year’s event.

“Last year was really incredible,” shares Cindy Flynn of Splash Festivals. “The weather was beautiful, and the crowds had a wonderful time. We saw grandmothers, moms and children – several generations shopping together for the Mother’s Day festival. It was wonderful,” Flynn explains. “We encourage everyone to come back again, and make it a yearly holiday tradition.”

Also part of the festival is the popular “Chairs for Charity” gallery and auction. Students from elementary, middle and high schools in the area are busy designing and decorating chairs and stools that will be auctioned to the highest bidder to benefit the art programs in public schools.

The event takes place on Chamblee Dunwoody Road between Mt. Vernon Road and Dunwoody Village Parkway (DV Parkway will be closed to thru traffic from 2am Saturday, May 12 through 9pm Sunday May 13). Free parking will be available at a satellite lot located at 200 Ashford Parkway, and regular shuttles will run between the lots and the Festival grounds.

For information on sponsorship and volunteer opportunities, visit the Festival website or, follow us on Facebook.
